Vesting powers to an independent body is in line with prevailing international practices for the regulation of accounting profession, and it will ensure robustness and impartiality. In order to align with international practices, the Government announced in early June 2021 to expand the roles and functions of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), develop it into a full-fledged independent regulatory body for the accounting profession and proposed that the FRC be renamed as Accounting and Financial Report Council (AFRC).
As the Accountancy Reform has a substantial impact on the accounting profession, CWK Global Group deeply concerned about the developments of the reform and hence sponsored the “Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area Financial Regulatory Conference Series” initiated and hosted by the Accountancy Caring Alliance and the Department of Accountancy and Law of Hong Kong Baptist University, jointly organised by Accounting Development Foundation, Business School of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Society of Chinese Accountants and Auditors, in order for the accounting professionals to discuss on the role of FRC in the Accountancy Reform and understand the regulatory approach and proposals. Dr Kelvin Wong, Chairman of the FRC, was invited as the speaker at the Discussion Forum and the event concluded successfully on 18 June 2021.
