Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) elects president and council earlier. There was severe competition in the election, in which 15 candidates were competing for 7 council positions.

The accounting industry is concerned about the status of accountants. Mr. Xavier Chan, the founding president of Hong Kong Accounting Professionals Association, urges the new elected council to improve the long working hours situation for accountants, and hopes the council is able to discuss with different accounting firms to look for the best solution.

Xavier also mentions it is necessary to set up a minimum charge for auditing services, as there are more competitors in the market who lower the charge for professional auditing services. Setting up a minimum charge could help to strengthen the professionalism for accountants.
